Between two tiers of spectators, a comedy with an unsettling humour unfolds.

A sort of horrific Alice in Wonderland, Le Chien, la Nuit et le Couteau tells the epic tale of young M., who wakes up in an unfamiliar alleyway on his way home from a night out with friends. Thus begins a chase that is as much a waking dream as it is a nightmare. The strange gallery of portraits, men, dogs and wolves that M encounters during his crazy night seem to have no other purpose than to kill him.

In one night, M. will experience love, death and friendship, becoming in turn prey and predator, killer to avoid being killed.

Mayenburg’s play is a ramshackle journey of initiation, constantly oscillating between traditional fairy tale, B movie, film noir and farce. It plays with our fears and confronts us with our own barbarity. Humanity becomes monstrous, but beneath the terror lies laughter. From this subtle balance emerges the story of a dark and apocalyptic Candide, a chase towards emancipation and freedom.
