The Homosexual or the Difficulty of Expressing Oneself
In Siberia, Irina suffers oppression at the hands of her adoptive ‘mother’ and then her piano teacher. Her vital and creative impulses are stifled by love, unfulfilled desires, jealousy and the pure and simple cruelty of these two possessive characters.
The Four Twins
In the depths of Alaska, two pairs of criminal twins, notorious for their wickedness, junkies and indestructible, wage a merciless and endless fratricidal struggle for gold bars, drugs and freedom.
Monstrous, hilarious and subversive, these two plays with their frigid atmosphere depict the fratricidal struggles of cruel and extravagant characters on the margins of society and the human race. Here, people change sex at will and die only to be resurrected in a post-apocalyptic, trashy and jubilant ballet.
Playing on the contrasts between kitsch and the sublime, cruelty and humour, the show is also a visual and musical work that tackles these two texts with power and nonchalance to reveal their political significance and ramshackle poetry.
Copi’s theatre, as disconcerting as ever, speaks to us of our conflictual relationship with the world and with others, with a keen sense of parody and comedy. In a joyful and devastating trance, it celebrates a theatre of catastrophe and cruelty, certainly, but above all a theatre of laughter and surprise. A theatre of the end of the impossible. A theatre where revolution could finally happen.
