Julie Bertin et Jade Herbulot

Julie Bertin et Jade Herbulot/Le Birgit Ensemble

Le Birgit Ensemble is a contemporary theatre company founded in 2014 by Julie Bertin and Jade Herbulot, following the presentation of their first project Berliner Mauer: vestiges – a piece focusing of the history of the Berlin Wall – in December 2013 at the CNSM of Dramatic Arts. The work was programmed the following season at the Théâtre Gérard Philipe – National Dramatic Center in Saint-Denis.

In July 2015, they proposed an outdoor version of Pour un Prélude [For a Prelude], their second project dealing with the transition to the year 2000, which was restaged at the Théâtre de Vanves in October 2015.

Julie Bertin and Jade Herbulot created their last two pieces Memories of Sarajevo and Dans les ruines d’Athènes [In the ruins of Athens] in July 2017, for the 71st edition of the Avignon Festival. These two pieces form with the two which preceded them a tetralogy dealing with the passage from the 20th to the 21st century, Europe, mon amour [Europe, my love].

Beginning in 2018, they started a new cycle of creation dealing with the History of the 5th French Republic, presenting Entrée libre (l´Odéon est ouvert) [Free admission (the Odeon is open)] at the CNSAD in April, and also created Les Oubliés (Alger-Paris) [The Forgotten (Alger-Paris)] which premiered in January 2019 at the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier at the Comédie-Française.

Roman(s) national [National Novel(s)), the third piece in this new cycle will be premiered in 2021, along with a little satellite piece, Douce France.

Julie Bertin and Jade Herbulot are associate artists at Théâtre de Chatillon from 2020 to 2022 and at Le grand R, scène nationale de La-Roche-sur-Yon from september 2022.

Le Birgit Ensemble receives operational support from the DRAC Ile-de-France and the departmental Council of the Val-de-Marne.
