à l'ombre d'un vaste détail, hors tempête.

Creation 2025 for 7 performers
A sudden detail unfolds amidst unnoticed mundane gestures and habits. Perhaps the simplest everyday details are the very space—or the place—which connect us to the invisible?
Start by conjuring up a very simple, very ordinary image: a scene from everyday life, someone cleaning down a surface, perhaps. The person is totally engrossed in their chore. Movement is suspended, concentrated, applied. Like a choreographic work in which action is self-sufficient. Like the quivering of fiction on the run. In the wake of previous works, Christian Rizzo opens the stage to the powers of abstraction, while maintaining the theatrical spectrum. Here, the reality of dance is revealed through the beat and interstice of the two dimensions. Through a surtitling system distilling fragments of text, the space is continuously fictionalised and reframed. Alongside deeply organic dance steps, situations appear and disappear with the shifting movement of light. Accompanied by a musical composition for organ, a group of dancers forms, divides and recomposes under the watchful eye of a labile structure. Repetition escapes multiplication: hidden somewhere within absences and gaps, a peaceful place emerges. A fragment, a detail, in the search for serene joy.
Conceived today as an epilogue to the trilogy of the invisible—“une maison”, “en son lieu” and “miramar”—”à l’ombre d’un vaste detail, hors tempête” embraces the notion of emptiness as a sine qua non condition for relationship with the other. Carried by a cast of nine dancers, the choreographic composition relies on principles of temporal ellipses, weaving together fragments and dramaturgical continuity. Seeking a state of peaceful happiness, the dance slips into a fluid gap between abstraction and narrative, between the concreteness of gesture and its poetic force. Bursts and suspensions then intertwine with sound, light and text to celebrate, in the words of poet Philippe Jaccottet: “Nothing but space, and in the midst of it, this murmur, eternal.”
