Funny Game
TWENTYTWENTY
A giant toy brought to life.
With Funny Game, Clédat & Petitpierre invite audiences into a playful, surreal world that feels like stepping inside a child’s bedroom. At the heart of the piece is a monumental broken rocking-horse head, around which three oversized rag dolls tumble, quarrel, and invent strange new ways of moving.
Made from stacked fabric discs, the dolls are floppy, soft, and unable to stand — their disjointed bodies conjuring a mix of tenderness and absurdity. Two of them are inhabited by dancers (Max Ricat and Areti Chourdaki), while the third remains empty, blurring the line between object and body, animate and inanimate.
Performed without music or speech, the work draws its soundscape from the muffled rustlings of the costumes themselves. Both sculpture and performance, Funny Game belongs to the artists’ celebrated series of “activated sculptures” — pieces that can be exhibited as static works or animated in live performance.
A joyful ode to childhood imagination, Funny Game speaks across generations and is accessible to audiences of all ages.
